Reward / risk after costs

Long example only. Stop must be below entry; target above entry. Costs are per unit in the same currency.

Net ratio = ((target − entry) × point value − cost) ÷ ((entry − stop) × point value + cost). Assumes fills at the stated prices; add an execution allowance to costs if appropriate.

Recovering a drawdown

A loss percentage and the gain needed to return are not equal.

Required gain = drawdown ÷ (100 − drawdown) × 100. This describes arithmetic, not the likelihood or time needed to recover.

Expectancy from assumptions

Use consistent cash or initial-R units. Enter positive magnitudes for average wins, losses and cost.

Expectation = win probability × average win − loss probability × average loss − cost. Sample averages are uncertain; this is not a verified edge. Do not subtract costs twice if inputs are already net.
