Guided example · Fictitious platform assessment · criteria, not provider rankings
Test the controls before comparing
Use a fictitious platform checklist. No provider is ranked or endorsed.
Restart & example assumptions
Authored synthetic observations, shown in sequence. Every comparison uses only the revealed data. This is a worked learning example, not live prices, broker execution or a profitability backtest. Follow the article’s exact definitions; measurements and pattern names alone do not authorize a trade.
For charts: tap a candle or swing to inspect it; drag horizontally to browse; wheel or +/− to zoom; arrow keys to inspect; Home to restore the step view.
Know what the product actually is
Identify the legal provider, account jurisdiction, instrument and venue. A similarly named cash product, futures contract and derivative can have different cash point values, fees, protections and risks. Check applicable regulator records independently rather than trusting a badge or advertisement.
Test the information layer
- Can you identify bid, ask, last-trade or midpoint charts?
- Does the contract specification state point value and minimum price increment?
- Can you export actual fills, quantities and charges?
- Are session times and timezone conventions explicit?
Test order behavior before relying on it
Check the trigger source for stops, permitted limit prices, expiry choices, partial fills and linked protective orders. Establish what happens after an order rejection, disconnection or partial fill. A simulation is useful for learning controls, but its matching model cannot establish live fill quality.
Use a consistent comparison sheet
Order types, trigger rules, fill reports and error handling.
Spread treatment, round-trip charges, data fees and product-specific financing.
Quantity increments, exposure visibility and protective-order behavior.
Authentication, recovery, permission scope and confirmation for sensitive actions.
Keep the selection separate from a strategy claim
A platform feature does not make a trading rule profitable. Reliable records and clear controls help you test a rule; they do not remove market or provider risk.
Before committing time or money
Read the provider’s current agreement, cost schedule, product documentation and regulator information. Verify the actual legal entity and website address. Do not send credentials, identity documents or account funds to an unverified contact.
